At Nelson, we’re more than the largest independent staffing company in California — we’re a family. As a part of our ongoing “Nelson Family Portrait” series, we’re interviewing the members of our team who help us achieve our “big picture” goal of putting California to work. 

Today, we’re talking to Alex Chamorro, Vice President of Executive Search. 

Tell us about what you will be doing at Nelson: 

I will be spearheading the implementation and direction of all direct hire initiatives, with a focus on hiring, training, and development. I will also be assisting field management in retention and revenue growth.

What did you do before Nelson? 

I worked as a Regional Director at two international Fortune 500 companies, and I co-founded an executive search practice in Los Angeles (which is still thriving 12 years later).

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?  

Visiting the different offices and meeting so many diverse groups of individuals that are full of energy and enthusiasm; the camaraderie is contagious!

What do you like to do outside of work? 

I enjoy paragliding on the weekends in Santa Barbara with my dog watching “under me,” waiting for me to land.

What’s the last thing you read? 

The Tao of Seneca – an introduction to Stoic philosophy.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be? 

To fly without a wing (i.e. without a paraglider).

Why did you choose Nelson? 

I chose Nelson, because of Nelson’s culture and reputation of being “different and innovating.”
